Jogger Me Not

Hey WannaBe's!  I was thinking about this the other day and thought this would be a nice lead in to my upcomings post.  I have run on and off for years, mostly off but this is the first time I have considered myself more of a "runner" than someone that jogs.  What's the difference?  To me a runner is an athlete, someone that looks for ways to improve where a jogger, well, jogs; no real purpose other than doing it to be in shape.  When I started this time-around, my goals were no different except that I became a little more focused on injury prevention.  Without realizing it, this would lead to more than prevention.  My readings opened up doors that went far beyond injury, there was technique, never thought about there being a true technique to running, I just did it.  Without knowing it, I was morphing into something different than previous times.  I was becoming a runner!

Now I have to throw this in because I owe a lot of what I am doing to Scott Jurek and his book Eat and Run.  Jurek's book single-handily turned me into this crazy WannaBe runner.  If you want to see what it is to be a true Bad Ass look no further, read his book.  Scott if you ever read this, thank you for writing Eat and Run.  For whatever reason I connected with you and the journey you spelled out for us to follow.

Sorry got side tracked a bit.  Now I find myself in constant search for ways to perfect my craft of running.  How can I be a more efficient, shoes, how to stretch, and on and on.  There are a million thoughts on what is right and wrong and they are all right in a sense but is it right for you?  You will have to do your own legwork but there are a few rules I believe every new runner should follow.  I call them the "Three P's of Running".  So that no one codes on me during these riveting posts, I will break them up into three short posts.  Ba-bye!

Run strong, healthy and free!
